Buyer's Guide
Buy 1992–1996 LT1 cars only. The 1984–1991 Crossfire/TPI engines are lower power and more troublesome. The LT1 305hp cars are the sweet spot.
ZR-1 is the collector play. The LT5 DOHC 375hp engine was a technical marvel. Values rising as enthusiasts recognize its significance.
1996 Grand Sportonly 1,000 built, admiral blue with white stripe. Collectible already. Don't daily drive one.
Convertibles command a premium but check convertible top mechanism — replacements are $800–$1,500.
Avoid 1984first year, only 205hp, numerous teething issues. 1985+ with Tuned Port Injection is meaningfully better.
Known Problem Areas
Optispark distributor (LT1)notorious failure point. Water gets in, misfires follow. Budget $300–$600 for replacement. Check if recently done.
Rear leaf springfiberglass transverse spring can crack with age. Replacement $400–$800. Inspect underneath.
Electronics rotHVAC control panels, digital dashboards, and door handles are age-specific failures. Parts availability shrinking.
Rust in hidden areasframe pockets and floor pans on salt-belt cars. Inspect with a flashlight from underneath.
ZR-1 specific: LT5 requires specialists. Parts are expensive and scarce. Verify cooling system integrity — overheated LT5s are expensive.

A 1994–1996 LT1 coupe in a desirable color (black, red, white) with under 60k miles and recent Optispark replacement. These routinely surface $12K–$16K from private sellers. The C4 is the most undervalued Corvette generation right now — values are climbing as the 30-year collectible window opens.

Buyer's Guide
LS1/LS6 are bulletproof. These engines routinely go 200k+ miles with basic maintenance. One of the most reliable V8s ever made.
Z06 is the enthusiast pick. 385hp LS6, fixed roof coupe (FRC), 3,115 lbs. Best power-to-weight of any C5. Values appreciating.
Manual only — no automatics worth buying for driving enjoyment. The Tremec T56 6-speed is excellent.
2001–2004 preferredteething issues resolved by then. Active Handling standard from 2001.
FRC (Fixed Roof Coupe)targa-style removable top panel. Lighter and stiffer than convertible but not as rigid as the Z06.
Known Problem Areas
Rear differential failureknown C5 issue, especially on Z06s driven hard. Listen for whine or clunk. Rebuild $600–$1,200.
Wheel bearing wearcommon on high-mileage C5s. Rumble/vibration at speed. $200–$400 per corner to replace.
Throttle position sensorearly cars (1997–98) prone to TPS failure causing surging. Inexpensive fix if diagnosed correctly.
Convertible top motorage-related failures. Replacement $300–$600. Cycle it before buying.

Grand Sport (2010+)Z06 wide body and brakes with the LS3 NA engine. Best balanced C6. Increasingly valued.
LS3 (2008+) replaced LS2. 430hp, more torque, better heads. Prefer 2008+ base cars over earlier LS2 models at same price.
ZR1638hp supercharged LS9. Collector car pricing applies. Buy only if you understand that market.
Check cam phaser noise (LS3)cold-start ticking on higher-mileage LS3 engines. Usually a known issue — ask directly.
Known Problem Areas
LS7 valve guide wearearly C6 Z06 (2006–2008) known for titanium valve guide wear causing oil consumption. Fix was issued by GM. Verify if addressed.
Z06 clutch wearfactory clutch on hard-driven Z06s. Replacement $1,200–$1,800. Ask about clutch history on any Z06.
Differential bearing noisesimilar to C5. Listen during test drive for whine under load. Rebuild $600–$1,200.
Power steering leakrack and pinion leaks on higher-mileage cars. Check fluid level and look for residue. $800–$1,500 to repair.

Manual Stingray is the narrative play. Last front-engine manual V8 Corvette ever made. The premium vs auto is widening. Buy now before it's recognized.
Z51 packageperformance exhaust, bigger brakes, limited slip, electronic LSD, transmission cooler. Worth $3K–$4K premium. Seek it out.

Magnetic Ride Control (RPO F55)transforms the car. Worth $2K–$3K over non-MRC examples. Verify with OBD scan.
Z06 caution: LT4 supercharged 650hp. Powerful but heat-sensitive. Verify GM oil cooler upgrade on 2015–2016 cars.
Known Problem Areas
Z06 heat soak (2015–2016)LT4 supercharger heat management under sustained track use. GM issued a fix. Verify oil cooler upgrade kit installed.
Frame/cradle inspectionC7s get tracked hard. Inspect aluminum frame rails and rear cradle for bending or weld repairs from underneath on a lift.

Buyer's Guide
Mid-engine changes everything. The C8 handles with a balance the front-engine cars never achieved. Objective supercar performance at a fraction of the cost.
Z51 package is mandatory. Performance exhaust, bigger brakes, electronic LSD, transmission cooler. Always pay the premium or find one already equipped.
Z06 is a genuine supercar. LT6 flat-plane V8 is one of the greatest naturally aspirated engines ever built. 670hp to 8,600rpm. Values will hold better than Stingray.
Wait on E-Rayhybrid AWD system is new and unproven at scale. Let early adopters find the issues. Check back in 2026.
No manual availablethe DCT is excellent but this will always limit enthusiast appeal vs the C7. It's the right call for the mid-engine layout.
Known Problem Areas
2020 first-year issuesavoid 2020 model year if possible. Multiple TSBs including differential, transmission, and electronics. 2021+ is substantially better.
Frunk (front trunk) latchearly C8 frunk latch issues are well-documented. GM issued a fix. Verify done on any 2020–2021.
DCT maintenancedual-clutch fluid service required every 30–45k miles. $300–$500. Ask for service history on higher-mileage cars.
Z06 oil consumptionsome early LT6 engines show elevated oil consumption. Monitor closely. Still being studied — check CorvetteForum for latest data.
Interior technologyinfotainment and driver assist systems complex. Check all screens, cameras, and driver mode systems thoroughly.

A 2021–2022 Stingray coupe, Z51, under 20k miles, from a private seller. The Z06 is the better long-term hold but demands $100K+ for clean examples — understand what you're buying before committing.

Why it pays for itself
At $2.99 a report you have zero reason to skip this step. We routinely surface $3,000–$15,000 in hidden risk — service gaps signaling deferred maintenance, options claimed in listings that aren't in the factory build sheet, or dealer pricing $8k above their own KBB value.
A $2.99 report on a $40,000 Corvette is 0.007% of the purchase price. It costs less than a coffee and can save you from a $5,000 mistake. The AI catches things most buyers never check.
Payments processed securely by Stripe. After payment you'll receive an access token valid for one (or five) analyses — enter it in the Analyzer tab to unlock. Reports are generated in real-time and not stored on our servers. At $2.99 per report there's no reason not to run one before any purchase. After checkout you'll be returned here with the analyzer unlocked automatically.

How It Works

Corvette Hunter uses Claude AI (Anthropic) to analyze vehicle listing pages and CARFAX reports. Upload any saved listing HTML from any source — Carvana, CarGurus, AutoTrader, Cars.com, or a dealer website — along with the CARFAX or AutoCheck PDF.

The AI extracts hidden pricing data embedded in listing pages, decodes VIN numbers, cross-references build sheet options, grades service history quality, and identifies red flags that most buyers miss.

Analysis covers: VIN decode · pricing vs. market value · options/build sheet · service history grade · accident analysis · imperfections · comparable sold prices · buy/pass verdict.

Documents are processed via Anthropic's API and are not stored. Analysis is AI-generated and for informational purposes only. Always verify with a professional inspection before purchase.
